Good people of Fort Triumph,
The Fort calls upon the wisdom of its people. Many ideas were circulated during the discussion that eventually drafted the Rules and Orders governing our fine region. Among those discussions, a concern was brought up that the Rules and Orders do nothing to define what it means to be a citizen in the Fort, or how to obtain citizenship. Citizens are given control over our region's laws and as such, we should make sure we're all on the same page when talking about who is or isn't a citizen of Fort Triumph.
My friends, let us now begin the discussion to define citizenship and the process of obtaining it in Fort Triumph.

Howdy.
There ain't no point in somebody being a citizen if they don't live here. So at least they have to shack up in the region somewhere. Then, I'd say if they want to vote and whatnot, they have to register in the Town Hall, and so long as no Marshal has an issue with 'em, they get to be citizens with all the suffrage and suffering and whatnot.

The Marshals will soon be doing a citizenship audit. We had roughly 27 citizens at the start of the mayor election and yet we had no more than 8 voters per round. Even less people make regular posts. I'm going to assume that we have around a dozen actual members in this community. I believe, regardless of what we do to define how one becomes a citizen, we should come up with a system that sets standards of how one maintains their status as a citizen.

I haven't stripped the maskings yet, but we currently have 18 Citizens that fit the current requirements for citizenship.

Activity in the Town Hall and/or elections makes sense to me. If someone skips a whole election bracket I feel like that's plenty of time and fair warning.

How often are elections?

There is no law requiring elections to be held at any interval. I believe we informally agreed that a standing mayor needs to be challenged for his position to kick off the election process. I planned on issuing a challenge against my seat with an election starting in November with the hope of setting a standard of 2 - 3 month terms.

How about just if they haven't viewed the forum in some time?

This could work. I would be against basing it off of Town Hall activity because discussing fake legislation isn't for everyone and as was pointed out elections don't happen often enough. Residing in the region and meeting some post activity requirement seems like a better direction to head towards

I'd say a post in two calendar months then removal, after an ignored PM and or discord ping.

why two months? I'm interested in this prospect, but am curious whether the term length was arbitrarily chosen or if there is a reason for it.

It's the maximum length before a nation can die, 60 days on vacation mode, and usually signals someone has stopped playing NS.

While it allows some players to hold citizenship for a time after they've let Fort Triumph slip as a priority of theirs (on NS), it isn't too quick to decry inactivity which can sometimes be seen as an insult. If we seem to be in agreement, shall we write some legislation?

Sounds agreeable to me. I might take a crack later this weekend if someone doesn't beat me to the punch
