Lets brainstorm some ideas for the map before we go through the labor of trying to get one made.

Well I like the idea of an economy based map. That obviously would add some complexity to the system but I think being able to buy items for the map through forum participation can be cool. We could have the "downtown" area where all kinds of shops and such are and we can have the outlying areas where people would live, ranch, etc with the town as their hub.
So we should be able to build houses and businesses for the map but in a not too difficult to update the map kind of way.

I also had that feeling, Jack. We could even divide it up into multiple smaller maps that could be combined for a large regional map if needed. One for the downtown, one for the homestead and of course one for the outlying areas where some businesses (like farms/mines) could be located, as well as special event areas.
We've got to come up with a way so multiple people could make edits on these maps without too much difficulty.

We also could just make a map with most of the objects on it already, but then assign numbers to each unit, kind of like an amusement park map. We then have a map key where we can list the name of the building and its owner as well as specifying what type of structure it is.
Example:
13. Ye Old Prospectors Shop (Thomas; General Store) 14. The Beautiful People (Manson; Brothel) 15. Whitehall Manor (Aav; Home) 16. Diggers' Den (Thomas, Silver Mine)

If it's tile-based stuff, I can probably throw together a quick script that, given a data definition, builds maps from existing assets. So the data definition would contain something like "G9;Benevolent Thomas;Silver Mine", in which case the script would then place the silver mine tile(s) at G9 and label it.

I like what you got so far BT. Do you know what buildings are what? I do know what each of them mean in the mapping program I used. We could also just make this whole area the business district (there are even some outlying mines and farms). flemingisa and I were thinking about releasing a residential district after reaching a regional milestone (pop or endo related). Most pioneers would live in their shops until they made it big, after all. The tent village could be for those who can't afford a business quite yet.

I was thinking of having a few specialized businesses that can be roleplayed where the owner is chosen (Inn and Saloon) and they can hire a staff. When we do our map/business updates, the employees and designated owner can divide up the profits, as determined by the owner.
Then there are the general businesses, which can be claimed by anyone. We should have them select from a few general categories, but them have them name their business whatever they'd like. examples: 4) Cowgirls [Brothel; Deadeye Jack] 5) Vault Tech [General Store; Shizensky]
This allows our residents/citizens to have the businesses they want, while still allowing the economic updates to be done with convenience.

So to add another layer to businesses and stuff. Do you generate income from business? And if so, how?

So to add another layer to businesses and stuff. Do you generate income from business? And if so, how? I know XKI has a generalized way to do this where it's like a 10% or 20% portion of the cost of the business is accumulated each month as income or something close to that. I don't think it's an automatic thing though so we may need to look in to a Treasurer or some other body to help over see this portion of it at least a cabinet member or maybe another elected position or one appointed by the Marshal since it may be a longer term thing.

A series of dice rolls.
1) For the general prosperity of the town. 1. -10% 2. +00% 3. +10% 4. +10% 5. +15% 6. +25%
Then multipliers based on regional growth (pop, WA pop, forum posts) are applied.
2) The success of that type of business (farm, mine, store, ext) 1. -25% 2. -10% 3. +00% 4. +10% 5. +25% 6. +50%
Multipliers based off of events are then applied.
% based of current cost to purchase said business.

Seems solid! I'm sure the EPC could come up with various scenarios as well that could affect items to match current events. I.E. aliens va cowboys could leave alien blasters at event resolution leading mineto produce more as people have found they work better than dynamite.

We can even do silly stuff, like increase business at brothels during regional visits.
