The locker room was abuzz. The Griffins have just heard that they will be facing off against the Wichita Wasps in their first game of the contest. Thomas and Jack Speardane were playing catch across the room to ease the nerves while Vincent Drake and Gatito Speardane were hard at work writing their next great song parody. As Benevolent Thomas entered the room, Captain Jack called the team together for lineup announcements.
Pitching Rotation Starter: Vincent Drake Relief (if needed): -Altmoras Speardane -House Cards -Pyrosky Speardane Closer (if needed): -Nakari Speardane
Batting Lineup 1. Merlin Speardane 2. Switz 3. DYP 4. Keeper Speardane 5. Jack Speardane 6. Hired Contractors 7. Pyrosky Speardane 8. Pika Speardane 9. Pitcher
"Told you I'd be picked before you, dude" Altmoras says, grinning at Tim Stark.
"All good, my dude" Tim replies. "I'd much rather be the one to help take out the Yonkers".
"You mean the Wankers, right" added Roavin.
"In all seriousness" interjected Jack "we should focus on our game tomorrow against the Wasps".
"Let's just hope Lever is extra Rusty tomorrow" mused Vincent Drake.
"God Dammit, Vinny" exclaimed Nakari.

Wichita Baseball Team Arrives for Tournament
Fort Triumph - After a ride on the the express train today, the Wichita Wasps baseball team arrived in Fort Triumph to participate in a tournament hosted by the town: the Fort Triumph Baseball Classic. This is the first ever time the tournament is being held and four teams are making the trip out to the rail town for their shot at glory.
"There are a good group of teams out there and we're eager to see how we stack up against some of the best teams the country has to offer," Wasps manager Billy Grover told the paper before the team's departure.
It's difficult to say what Wichita's chances are to win the Classic, but they are feeling confident in their abilities. The opinion around the clubhouse is that baseball is baseball no matter who you're playing or where they're playing.
"Look, we're not afraid of anyone out on the field, we can hang with anyone," starting centerfielder Peter Pickett opined, "We can hit, we can pitch, we can field. Ain't nothing we can't do. Only thing that I heard might be a little different is this park has train tracks running through it so gotta be careful not to get ran over. I heard some poor guy got killed out there running one down a few years back."
This is the first time any of the players on the team have been to Fort Triumph and many of them have expressed their not quite sure what to expect from the town and its people. With some downtime due to their arrival a day early they took some time to explore. Of course not all made it far. Star first baseman Louis Veelslugger just about made it off the train.
"I was dying to stretch my legs because the train was cramped ya know, so when we finally arrived and got out we saw a saloon barely a few hundred feet away from the station. Right then and there I knew this was my kind of town."

Clevelanders Looking to Bounce Back After Late Loss WESTERN DESTINY FIELD - Indiana Clevelanders manager Frank Terry says his team is ready to fight back after losing late in yesterday battle against the Yankers. "We've got to play better defense. We've had a talk with our bullpen and our relief team is ready to close one out." The Clevelanders are looking to start with a strong pitching game, with Klubot taking the mound first. Last year's Eastern Division Really Good Pitcher winner remains emotionless and poised for domination. Pitchy McPitchface is ready to pitch his face off to close out the match. The Clevelanders will be running most of their starters, opting to bring Eddy Enc in on first to add some extra hitting power: SS: Lindy Francis 1B: Eddie Enc C: Gomie Yan 3B: Rammy Hosey LF: Brantley Michaels CF: David Rajai RF: Caber Melky 2B: Kip Jasnis P: Klubot

Lever Grounds Griffins
Fort Triumph - It was a beautiful day in Fort Triumph as Wichita took to the field to square off against Weisshaupt Fortress for its first game of the Fort Triumph Baseball Classic. Staff ace, Rusty Lever, toed the rubber looking to dominate the Griffins. He did not disappoint as he cruised to a complete game shutout, earning the Wasps a 3-0 victory.
"You know I was just in the zone. All my stuff was working and I was able to really paint the corners," Lever said after the game. He continued on, "I know it's weird but I attribute a lot of my success to the other guys' names. I was able to strike out the leadoff guy in the first, and that really helped my confidence. When we got into the second there was another damn Speardane at the plate. 'Didn't I just face this guy a few batters ago?' I was thinking to myself. Anyway I got him out too and it was an endless parade of Speardanes all day. I figured I got one out why not them all. Really though what's the deal with all that. Are they all related or something? I thought that was only a joke about families being able to start their own baseball teams."
Of course it wasn't just Rusty Lever's performance that got the team the win. Through six innings the Griffins' pitcher, Vincent Drake, had kept the Wasps' lineup from buzzing, but, in the 7th, the bats started a rally with back to back singles by Johnson and Pickett. That set the stage for cleanup man, Veelslugger, and he sent one way over the outfield tracks for a homerun to give the Wasps a 3-0 lead that would hold til the end of the game.
The Wasps look to follow up their impressive opening game win with another one tomorrow against the Yew Nork Yankers who also won today.

WWIndiana Fever Sweeps Fort Triumph WESTERN DESTINY FIELD - The Clevelanders are hoping to maintain the momentum of a two game win streak as they head into their rematch against the Yew Nork Yankers. Manager Frank Terry believes his team has made the appropriate adjustments to come away with a win. "I believe this team has made the appropriate adjustments to come away with a win," he said. The Clevelanders have been playing stellar defense in the past two games and will continue to keep this a focus going forward. Rising star Bauer Powers will be the starting pitcher, and Perry Roberts will be catching in place of Gomie Yan. Powers and Roberts have a lot of chemistry that goes back to their days as high school athletes. Allen Cottington is slated to be the setup man with Alistair Fancypants serving as the closer. Terry Frank has opted to give his heavy hitters a rest in the next game. The lineup will showcase the reliable hitters and fast base runners that made the Clevelanders a notorious infield threat in their home division. Fans can expect more than a few stolen bases. Projected lineup: C: Perry Roberts SS: Lindy Francis 1B: Alan Yonder 3B: Rammy Hosey LF: Brantley Michaels 2B: Kip Jasnis CF: David Rajai RF: Caber Melky P: Bauer Powers Pitchers: Bauer Powers (Starter) Allen Cottington (Relief) Alistair Fancypants (Relief)

Wichita Suffers First Loss, Drops to 3rd
Fort Triumph - It was a disappointing loss to Indiana for Wichita today as the Wasps drop to 3rd place in the standings on the back of a lackluster 2-0 final. The bats never came alive which has become an emerging theme for the team in the Classic. They're averaging a paltry 2 runs scored per game, which would be well on track for worst offense if it wasn't for the absolutely pitiful hitting display the Griffins have put on during this tournament.
Pitcher Chet Hammer was the lone bright spot for the Wasps today, but it wasn't good enough. He needed to be perfect and even then he needed to get some help. These sentiments were shared by Hammer after the game.
"I thought I went out there and put in a real good performance but you gotta score runs to win and I gave up too many and we couldn't get anything going. Hopefully we can start stringing together some better at bats while keeping up what our pitchers have been doing."
The lack of offense so far in this tournament was not lost on manager Billy Grover. When speaking after the game he assured onlookers that he would shake up the lineup in order to try to find some more energy. The effectiveness of his tinkering will be seen when the Wasps face off against the winless Griffins in a rematch from the opening day.
Projected Lineup Grant Rodgers 2B Denny Ryan SS

Wasps Sting Yankers, One Win From Title
Fort Triumph - After the round robin play from the past week, two teams were left standing to face off in a three game series to be crowned the first every Fort Triumph Baseball Classic champions: Yew Nork (5-1) and Wichita (4-2). The two teams set themselves above the rest and it figured to be a fairly even and entertaining match-up. The first game wasn't a disappointment.
Things started slow as the clubs had to shake off some nerves and go through the initial feeling out stage. It was a scoreless affair through the third inning when the Waps started a rally. It started with a walk to Veelslugger, a single by the catcher, Stubby Adams, and a hit by pitch on Beane. Just like that the Yankers were in a jam. With the bases loaded, Orville Hopkins stepped to the plate and ripped a double down the line to drive in two runs. He was followed by Boof Bailey who cleared the bases with a towering homerun, giving Wichita a 5-0 lead.
The Yankers did not fold, however. In the top of the 5th inning they immediately answered back with a rally of their own showing why they've been such a hard team to beat in this tournament. Wichita's Ted Wheeler struggled with his control throughout the inning, allowing multiple doubles to the gaps and walking 3 batters.. With the lead narrowed to 5-4 and a runner on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, though, he dug deep and managed to strike out Who Phillips to stop the bleeding.
Over the rest of the game the Wasps tacked on thre more runs for insurance and in the 9th inning "Uncle" Charlie Jenkins came on to close out the 8-4 win. The Wasps left the field feeling good about their chances but not ready to count their chickens.
"We played a hell of a game out there today and got ourselves a big win," manager Billy Grover said, "but this isn't over. If we let up these Yankers will bury us in the ground. We gotta come out with all we got to finish this thing off and we gotta get more out of the pitchers tomorrow because it ain't likely the Yankers are gonna give up 8 again."
