How shall we choose our first mayor. We know that they are elected, but how? Do we just hold a vote or should we legislate a system that may also include term limits?

I think we can set a term length, but I like the idea of no term limit, at least for now.
As for the how, a simple election seems fine. We can go a more traditional route, with a week or two for declarations and campaigns, then a period of time to vote. A private vote, with a hidden vote count until the poll expires, seems like the best way to go.

I agree I think we'll set a term limit eventually but right now it's a non issue. I was thinking a little less like a few day on the declaration but a week on the campaigns would be good. It's not like if everything go wonky we can't legislate a recall.

I don't think term limits are necessary at this time either, unless you meant term length BT? In which case I think 3-4 months would be a good term length. You could do 3-4 days for nomination/declaration of intent and a week for Q&A. As far as voting period you could do up to a week or maybe a little less.

Howdy! Well, barring any ordinances that set out how to elect a mayor, we can do it any which way we like. But we need a mayor, and us bickerin' around about term limits and whatnot ain't gonna get us one. So we just do the school yard system - everybody says who they want to be mayor and whoever gets the most votes will be it. And if we don't like that mayor no more, we just vote again for another one.
I reckon Benevolent Thomas will make a good mayor.

Benevolent Thomas would make a fine mayor indeed, but I reckon that he started this discussion to figure out if we wanted to make an election law. Asides, what if he doesn't want to be mayor?

Well the Rules and Orders say the Mayor comes from the Citizenry so I guess you can call me Mr Mayor

We don't need no election law to make him the mayor! We just have to decide it. An election law can come later, when we have a mayor runnin' this town, keepin' it from becoming too lawless. That Sauron fella over there sure is shady.

I'm takin' this discussion as that discussion. The rules of order are all but ratified. We can wait for the vote to officially end, or we can get a jump on things and start figurin' out the details.

Well I'll say! How 'bout we don't have any of them silly laws and just set us a nice ol' precedent where our Mayor is whoever the majority of the citizens want, chosen whenever we want. If the Mayor we choose is a no good, hardheaded shanny, then we will choose us a better one right then and there! No questions asked.
